The BCA Foundation supports a wide variety of worthy causes. One that is highly anticipated each year is the BACK IN THE WOODS AGAIN event, a deer hunt for mobility-challenged hunters. The event was created by Jerome Davis who was a World Champion bull rider that was paralyzed after being thrown from a bull in 1998. The Back In The Woods Again organization was founded in November 2011 to provide mobility-challenged hunters a chance to literally get back in the woods again. Participants are provided transportation, lodging, food, and any gear they may need. Individual guides for each hunter assist in the actual hunts.
The BCA Foundation made a sponsorship donation of $250.00, and Bear Creek Arsenal donated three rifles that were raffled with all of the proceeds going to the event.
There were fifty-four hunters this year that harvested a total of eighty deer. The N.C. Wildlife Commission was instrumental in making the hunt possible by allowing an exemption for the hunting season which normally starts mid-October. Several officers were present to make sure all regulations were followed.
The unsung heroes were the dozens of volunteers who spent countless hours in preparation. It was held at Tyson’s Creek Baptist Church in Bennet, N.C. Three other churches provided meals. These included Beulah Baptist Church, Bennet Baptist Church, and Fall Creek Baptist Church. Desserts were donated by individuals in the local community. Landowners in Lee, Moore, Chatham, and Montgomery counties provided the hunting spots.
Back In The Woods Again is a 501©3 non-profit organization. For more information visit www.backinthewoodsagain.com.
