It is an unfortunate testament to the times we live in that active shooter events seem to be on the rise. Nowhere is this more concerning than in the K-12 school systems or other sensitive, public-facing entities like hospitals, courthouses, and airports.

To provide School Resource Officers the ability to safely and discreetly store long arms that can be quickly accessed from within a locked-down campus, Hayman Safe company developed the Rapid Access Firearm Safe (RAFS) as part of the company’s School Resource Officer (SRO) Initiative.

The RAFS is an unconventional firearm safe system designed for covert appearance so that it is unrecognizable as a gun storage unit and can be strategically placed within a facility for fast active-shooter response by the SRO. Access to the RAFS is managed by a biometric lock system that utilizes three unique access code levels and accepts up to 15 fingerprints, allowing flexibility in access relative to the organization or agency’s response plan.

Each RAFS is constructed of a heavy-duty 3/16-inch formed solid steel door and body with a recessed door that interlocks with the frame and body. Drill-resistant hardplate combines with a deadlocking boltwork to stop drill attacks and to prevent jimmying. In short, the RAFS is built to withstand ALL forcible entry attempts.

Long guns are secured to the inside of the door in a muzzle down attitude for a safe weapon presentation. Once the lock is disengaged, the door opens and the firearm is presented for efficient and immediate removal. The adjustable gun rack system is intended to accommodate two AR-15 rifles or defensive shotguns up to 39 inches in length.

Additional gear, such as extra magazines, helmets, soft armor, or lights can also be stored in the RAFS. The smaller model (RAFS-1) measures 47x20x12 inches and includes a fixed inner shelf and a molle rack affixed to the back wall. The larger-capacity RAFS-2 measures 47x20x20.5 inches and features a larger fixed shelf and an adjustable bottom shelf.
