Windham Man Charged In Illegal Shooting Of Domestic Dog

A Windham man turned himself in today, confessing to the shooting of a domestic dog in North Yarmouth yesterday.

Troy A. Hall, age 51 of Windham, was charged by the Maine Warden Service with one count of shooting a domestic animal earlier today. Game Wardens will meet with the Cumberland County District Attorney’s office to determine if more charges are warranted.

Earlier this morning, at approximately 10:45 a.m., Hall went to the Windham Police Department and turned himself in. Game Wardens then met with Hall and he confessed to shooting the dog in North Yarmouth yesterday. Game wardens had been following up on multiple leads provided by the public regarding this incident when Hall turned himself in.

The charge is the result of an incident yesterday when at approximately 11:00 a.m., three people were walking their dogs on a marked trail in the Knights Pond Preserve when one of their dogs was shot, approximately 20 feet ahead of them. The owners of the dog had a brief encounter with the shooter, but he quickly fled the scene.

Game Wardens were able to get statements from several eye witnesses, and collected evidence at the scene. The Warden Service also requested that members of the public, particularly those in the area of North Yarmouth, provide any surveillance camera footage if they had any, or call with any information regarding a middle-aged man leaving he area in a dark-colored, full-size pickup truck. Maine Operation Game Thief also offered at $2,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the person responsible for the shooting.

This investigation remains open, and this release will be updated if any new information becomes available.
