Holiday Buying

Nov 30, 2018

It’s that time of the year again, so let’s take a peek at what’s out there for all those potential gift-givers. This is just a quick look around. Your email boxes are probably clogged with ads for holiday sales – just like my email account is – so I’m sharing items that interest me.

Crimson Trace is offering their LTG-770, a small weapon light that yields 110 lumens from the LED light source. Designed to securely fit around the trigger guard of Smith & Wesson M&P Shield/ Shield M2.0, the light features bilateral Instant Activation with constant and momentary modes. Good for more than 1 hour of light, the LTG-770 is normally less than $90, but can be found on sale at the moment.

Wilderness Renegade Ankle Holster Elastic Ruger LCR with “Yeti” Pouch: after retailing the Renegade "Cozy Partner" line of ankle holsters, the manufacturing company went out of business. Wilderness Tactical now produces their version of the “Renegade.” Available for many snub revolvers and autos, they’ve added a vapor barrier behind the sheepskin fleece backer to reduce sweat transfer to the holster pouch and the gun therein. The Wilderness version features a holster body that extends below the muzzle – for concealment and to keep the steel from the wearer’s ankle.

It’s available with an optional ammo pouch for revolver ammo “strips” or small magazines. The pouch was designed with input from Steve Fisher (“Yeti”), hence the moniker for the Yeti Ammo Pouch.

To square away your ability to keep your shots on target, check into MantisX – a system where a sensor is attached to the gun’s accessory rail. Connecting that to the downloaded app for your table/smart phone through a low-energy Bluetooth connection, the sensor tracks your movement and logs it for analysis. We all (should) know that keeping the gun as still as possible during ignition is critical to accuracy and the MantisX tracks any movement. From a company of shooters and engineers, the product is an attempt to gather data to analyze that which the human eye can’t reliably detect. This lets you correct your difficulties. According to the company, certain military organizations and law enforcement agencies have adopted the system to improve their shooters. Don’t have a tablet or smart phone? MantisX will provide a low cost solution in the Kindle Fire. Their app is available in the Apple App store, the Google Play store, and the Amazon Store.

SureFire image.

More light – this time in the interesting SureFire Stiletto. Flat in shape, the device is built around the battery, like a pistol is designed around the magazine. It’s a multiple output rechargeable pocket LED flashlight that yields a maximum of 650 lumens for 1 ¾ hours. Weighing in at less than 3 ounces, it’s less than five inches long and has a heavy duty Melonite coated pocket clip. There are two switches. The primary switch is on the body next to the programming switch. A “tactical” switch is on the base of the light opposite the MaxVision Beam reflector. The light is charged via a micro-USB cable, which is included. Price: $109.00
