Central to this initiative is the Product Engineer role—an essential position that bridges the gap between design intent and manufacturing reality. The Product Engineer is responsible for guiding products from initial concept through full-scale production, combining CAD-driven design, engineering analysis, and cross-functional collaboration. Utilizing advanced tools such as SolidWorks, the role develops 3D models, assemblies, and detailed engineering documentation while ensuring alignment with performance, quality, and regulatory requirements.
A key component of the position is ensuring designs are optimized for manufacturability. By working closely with Manufacturing, Tooling, Quality, and Supply Chain teams, the Product Engineer supports tooling development, validates production processes, and participates in design reviews and DFMA (Design for Manufacturing and Assembly) initiatives. This collaborative approach ensures products are not only innovative, but also efficient to produce at scale.

The position also plays a vital role throughout the product lifecycle, managing engineering changes, maintaining configuration control, and supporting continuous improvement efforts. From conducting root cause analysis to driving cost reduction initiatives through material optimization and design simplification, the Product Engineer contributes directly to long-term product performance and operational efficiency.
Testing and validation are integral to the role, with responsibilities including the development and execution of test plans to verify form, fit, and function. The Product Engineer ensures all products meet stringent performance, durability, and compliance standards, reinforcing Check-Mate's reputation for quality and reliability.
Ideal candidates bring a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, Industrial Engineering, or a related field, along with 5–10 years of experience in product development within a manufacturing environment. Expertise in mechanical design, GD&T, materials, and CAD platforms is essential, along with a strong understanding of DFMA principles and structured problem-solving methodologies. Experience in metal stamping or the firearms industry is highly valued.
