West Point Set to Defend SSC Title

The Black Knights of the United States Military Academy at West Point are set to defend their national title against all comers March 10-11 at Fort Benning, Ga. Youth teams from both coasts will travel to Benning for the big match, hoping to come away with one of TWO $5,000 endowment prizes.

"The biggest thing to take away for West Point's team this year is that the Combat Weapons Team and Pistol Team combined their best elements to represent in the SSC Collegiate Nationals," says West Point Steel Challenge coach Maj. Chris Kliewer.

In Scholastic Steel Challenge, teams of youths target steel plates at varying distances with handguns -- fastest team wins. The Collegiate matches require 100 shots -- assuming the shooter doesn't miss! Shooters compete in 9mm and/or .22 pistol matches, depending on their experience and budget. West Point emphasizes centerfire, but competes in both!
