Steyr Arms Receives Award of Excellence

Steyr Arms Receives Prestigious Award of Excellence from Sporting Classics Magazine

BESSEMER, Ala. Since 2002, Sporting Classics Magazine has recognized the products and companies that have a significant and long-lasting impact in the sporting community with its Awards of Excellence. This year, Steyr Arms USA was presented with the Award of Excellence for Rifle Company of the Year.

“Because of its cutting edge, some would say futuristic, AUG A1 bullpup military assault rifles, Steyr might strike American hunters as something new out of Austria,” wrote Ron Spomer about Steyr Arms USA. “No chance. Steyr has been making cutting-edge rifles ever since its first breechloader in 1864. Veteran hunters from the 20th Century still speak in hushed tones of the butter-smooth action of the Steyr Mannlicher with its Schoenauer spool magazine.

“Today, Steyr serves traditional hunters with walnut-and-blued as well as synthetic-stocked CL (II) bolt-actions. Cutting edge hunters/shooters gravitate to the Scout, a short, handy bolt-action with built-in bipod, spare magazine well, integral Picatinny rails and multiple sling swivel attachment points. Rimfire shooters rejoice in the reintroduction of the famous Zephyr, a full-size, professional quality bolt-action in .17 HMR, .22LR and .22 WMR.

“And then there is the full line of Merkel double rifles and single shots—more than enough to earn Steyr our Rifle Company of the Year award,” Spomer concluded.

Each year Sporting Classics editors nominate products from across a range of categories to be reviewed and then voted upon to determine those products and services most deserving of this prestigious designation. Now in its tenth year, the Sporting Classics Awards of Excellence recognize innovative products and those that have stood the test of time.

“The Steyr and Merkel firearms have long been revered by shooting and hunting enthusiasts worldwide as some of the most remarkable guns ever made,” said Scott O’Brien, CEO of Steyr Arms USA. “We continue that tradition today, as we introduce new and innovative firearms, year after year.

“I would like to express our sincere thanks to the editorial staff at Sporting Classics for recognizing the Steyr Arms lineup of rifles in both the Steyr and Merkel brands.”
