The Classic M1 Garand Tops GUNS Magazine December Issue

“Miracles can occur and the development of the M1 Garand might just qualify as one,” contends FMG Special Projects Editor Roy Huntington in a special three-part report featured in the December issue of GUNS.

Contributions from Huntington, Mike “Duke” Venturino and Will Dabbs, MD delve into the brilliance of John Garand’s design and its adoption in 1935, the high praise it earned from none other than General George Patton, its decades of service in fierce battle and the brave men who, for better or worse, became intimately involved with it.

In an industry prone to fads and stylistic whims, the concept of dry-fire training has become another point of contention among shooters. In “Dry-Fire Training — Essential or Exaggerated?” Trent Marsh explores whether it’s time to adapt a training regimen to include it or if it’s just another “this too shall pass” fad.

GUNS Magazine ends 2023 with a blast with an Ed Brown Fueled MP-Metal-F1 topping the Dec. Firearms Package Giveaway. Based on the S&W metal-framed M&P 2.0, the heart of the pistol is the Ed Brown Accuracy Rail. Among its many features, the hand-fitted 9mm includes a fully machined custom slide, 4.75" button rifled match barrel with Ed Brown tread flutes and custom extractor. Valued at $2,295, readers are encouraged to enter the free drawing by visiting GunsMagazine.com/giveaways.

Rounding out the final issue of the year, Clayton Walker delivers four “secrets” to gun cleaning that make a big difference in tackling the chore many bemoan. In the same vein, handling and firing guns exposes shooters to all sorts of hazardous compounds. Dr. Dabbs advises a few simple precautions for keeping things safe and recreational in “Lead Poisoning Dangers.” In the Think Tank column, a chance encounter with an angry grizzly bear ends with quick thinking and six shots of 9mm. But as Jeff “Tank” Hoover reminds, “Shooting a gun accurately and placing your shots is more important than what you shoot.”
