Williamsburg, KY – Hawthorne Christian Academy is a private nonprofit Christian school in Chester, South Carolina serving students in kindergarten through 12th grade. Hawthorne Christian Academy started an S3DA team a little over four years ago and have continued to contribute to the success of the South Carolina S3DA program. Nearly one hundred youth archers from fourteen teams across the state gathered to compete at Hawthorne in the first South Carolina S3DA Indoor Regional of the 2023 competition season.
Eden Bryant with Palmetto Center Seekers was witnessed giving a chant of encouragement and a “High Five” to new archer Elle Stoudemire with Center Point Archery. Seeing things like this is a good example of how adults sometimes get caught up in the performance and scores, but the archers stay cool, calm, and collected and show us that friendships last a lot longer than competition.
Brody Church with Cherokee Charter Academy showed a lot of compassion for a fellow archer when a score was not correctly recorded, and his award was given to another archer. When the oversight was discovered, Brody’s response was “my friend has worked very hard, and he deserved the award.” Cherokee Charter Academy has a great group of kids that not only display good sportsmanship, but they learn skills and life lessons that will only continue to grow over time.
Sheila Tadlock, South Carolina State Coordinator says, “Prior to this event we held a fun shoot at Northside Recreation Center in Rock Hill, South Carolina to gain more interest for the South Carolina S3DA program. In comparing this event from last year’s regional, we had a 25% increase with new archers qualifying for the upcoming state championship. We have hundreds of youth archers with an active membership for South Carolina S3DA. Looking at how far this program has come is amazing. I love S3DA and I am so proud to represent as the South Carolina S3DA State Coordinator.”

About Scholastic 3-D Archery
Scholastic 3-D Archery (S3DA) is a unique, family-oriented youth archery program which has grown exponentially across the United States as a next-step initiative to follow introductory archery programs. The mission of the Scholastic
3-D Archery program is to foster, educate and guide youth in the areas of 3D, indoor target, and outdoor target archery as well as safe, ethical bowhunting practices. The goal of the S3DA program is to provide archery and bowhunting opportunities to youth in after-school settings, as well as with archery-affiliated clubs and businesses in the community. S3DA youth participate in 3-D and target archery using compound and traditional archery equipment. Youth members can participate at regional, state and national archery events and earn college scholarships from colleges and universities across the United States. S3DA addresses the need for a program to bridge beginning target archery experience and more advanced activities such as 3-D shooting and bowhunting. The program currently operates across the United States with hundreds of certified coaches serving thousands of youth archers.
