Engaged Industries displays new technical details surrounding its VLB25 baffle design and patent pending Vacuum Expansion (VE) gas management system, the core technology behind its Operator 5.56 and Recon .308 suppressors. Take a closer look at how the company's engineering team re‑imagined internal gas control to achieve measurable reductions in blowback and sound pressure without relying on traditional venting methods.

At the heart of the design are 3 main phases: Phase one of Vacuum Expansion (VE) Technology compresses the gases in the compression section. In Phase two the compressed gases accelerate through the transition area causing a low pressure zone distal to the previous expansion section. The creation of this low pressure causes a vacuum to pull gases from the previous expansion section (nearly eliminating gas blowback). In Phase three the gases accumulate in the expansion chamber causing a time delay (in microseconds) giving the bullet time to pass into the next baffle segment and repeating the cycle. A precisely machined internal volume that manipulates pressure differentials inside the suppressor body dynamically changes depending on the pressure of the round. Instead of allowing high‑velocity gases to pulse directly toward the shooter or expand laterally through ports, the system directs and controls the flow of gases. This technique not only reduces muzzle signature but also stabilizes recoil impulse, producing cleaner cycling and enhanced shooter comfort.
Our team prioritized controllable, repeatable gas management. The VLB25 and refined VLB26 system functions like a small‑scale fluid dynamics lab, -gas is totally controlled, and maps the bullet position and movement, resulting in suppression performance consistent across variable barrel lengths.
Technical diagrams and detailed gas‑flow visualizations of the VLB25 system are now available for industry partners and dealers upon request.
